GCSE Exam Revision Material (2010 onwards)
OK - the power point (Lesson 6) is actually a FOUR hour revision session. The two other worksheets are the articles and worksheets required to complete the lesson. You'd also need mini-white boards, whiteboard pens and post-it notes to run this lesson right off. Hope this will prove useful.
KS4 - Shakespeare and Conflict Poetry - FEELINGS
A series of lessons designed to teach Year 10-11 students about Shakespeare and how he presents feelings. This unit is pointed at a controlled assessment question that focuses on how Shakespeare and the conflict poetry POETS present ideas about feelings - poetry lessons to follow.
Lord of the Flies: Stage 1 - Reading (L-M)
Here you will find the reading lessons for my Lord of the Flies SoW for the low to mid ability (Learning outcomes measured against Levels 3 - 5).
IMPORTANT: Lessons 6 and 7 use sound-clips which I couldn't upload - you will have to find suitable sound effects yourself.
Please feel free to add feedback and any suggestions.
The Truman Show
The power points and worksheets build upon the attached pdf SoW (not my work - but i include it for you). The power points work through the trailers and the film with targeted comprehension questions. These were built with a mixed ability Year 9 group in mind.
IGCSE English Mock Papers
Hopefully this will spare some of you the torture of having to create your own mock exam papers within the IGCSE English format.
Poetry: Cultural Poetry Investigation PART 2
....and here it is. The second part of a KS3 investigation into poetry. It should be noted that I have targetted these lessons specifically at LOWER ABILITY year 7's - this unit is designed to be a little harder.
It should be noted at this point that these resources were created in conjunction with a team of people - i do not take credit for ANY of the word documents in BOTH resources.
Midsummers Nights Dream S&L Resource Kit
I did this as an end of year task with my Year 7's. Essentially it is putting on a puppet show of Pyramus and Thisbe, the idea being that the students tell a modern version but using elements of Shakespearean language. Set up for SLAF 3 but easy enough to alter for SLAF 1 and 2.
Neo-Classical prose, poem and play
A worksheet on a poem, play and piece of prose from the Neo-Classical era. The questions are to check understanding and encourage thoughtful study of the era.
I would appreciate feedback.
GCSE SECTION A Q5: Comparative Response
I made this sheet after marking a load of mock exam papers and getting frustrated at the inability of some foundation students to compare effectively. Oh yes, this is meant to be printed on A3 paper too!
I have had success with foundation groups in terms of getting them to structure their responses.
Year 10/11 S&L: Drama Romeo & Juliet
Have had major success with this activity with a low ability Year 11 group. Concept is centered around 'A Tavern in Verona' and deals with events after the finish of the play. Students create and develop their own character. I have had un-confident and uncooperative students sustain their identified roles for 20 minutes with a video camera in their faces. Give it a whirl...
First Day Feelings
Linked to the Roald Dahl 'Boy' SoW. I used these powerpoints and worksheets to differentiate for a very large middle set year 7 group. Reasonable success - the worksheets allows the top end to focus on their own development, leaving me to focus on those who were really struggling.
Murder Mystery: Writing
To be taught following the completion of the speaking and listening side of this unit. A selection of resources geared very specifically towards the creation and improvement of a mystery story.
Creative Writing: The Titanic
I created these resources whilst on a second school placement during my GTP. The aim was to get a year 9 group to write creatively but familiarize them with GCSE marking criteria (Welsh Board). The information surrounding the Titanic was to provide a stimulus for them to write their own story.
English Language Materials (Old Spec)
These are the resources I created for teaching AS English Language - I am certain now that the spec has changed but the skills and powerpoints may be a start point for some. Hope someone out there finds these useful...
Murder Mystery: Reading Lessons
Lessons are designed to be read alongside Sherlock Holmes: The Speckled Band. Had some good success with this scheme as a way of getting students to improve their inferential skills.
Murder Mystery: Drama
Having some great success with this continuation of the reading scheme. Inside, you will find resources to create a detective pack and lessons that will help students create and sustain characters. Really fun group of lessons!
Home Learning Tracking Spreadsheet
A simple spreadsheet that allows you to keep track of your online lessons. My school uses classcharts as its medium in setting online learning - but you can easily change the headings of the columns to reflect whatever software you use.
GCSE Spoken Language Political Speech Pack
OK, taught this for the first time to a bottom set year 9 class and they all got Band 3s and above for this (save one or two) so I'm calling it a success. I claim no credit for the speeches, I&'m just putting them on here for you to use. I found that it was necessary to make the students aware about politics and political terms BEFORE launching into spoken language study. The last resource is a useful revision booklet which I use throughout KS4 as a HW booklet. Hope it is useful for you.
Creative Writing: Ghost Story
Targeted specifically at Year 7 students who have read 'The Black Harvest' but works well as a starting point for creative writing. I use this at the end of a term when i have time left but have started to run out of material in my current topic.
Lord of the Flies GCSE Prose Essay Activity Pack
The worksheets allow a GCSE Prose essay to be built up. They focus on the Introducation, components of the essay specific to answering the essay question AND the conclusion. There are suggested starter sentences. All resources are Dyslexic friendly (Comic Sans Font).
Suitable for lower ability year 10 classes, or classes with reliance upon the TA's and outside class learning. The resources refer directly to the Lord of the Flies book. I have used the Faber and Faber Educational Edition (ISBN:0571056865).
